The recent release of the first-semester examination results have left some students down spirited and in times like this, a lot of interpretation needs to be made on the results so these students can get back on track.
Student performance in HND/Diploma (Non – CBT) course/programme is graded as follows:
Grade Point (GP)
Each grade is assigned a numerical grade as indicated above. The number of grade points (GP) earned by a student for each course completed is computed as the product of the number of credits for the course and the numerical grade obtained in the course.
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)
The student’s cumulative grade point average is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points obtained, up to any specified time, by the number of credits for all courses for which the student has registered up to that time.
Final Awards
Final awards shall be classified as follows:
Class of Awards | CGPA |
1st Class | 4.00 and above |
2nd class upper | 3.00-3.99 |
2nd class lower | 2.00-2.99 |
Pass | 1.50-1.99 |

Student performance in HND/Diploma (CBT) Course/Programme graded as follows:

A CGPA of more than 1.0 but less than 1.50 at the end of the year after re-sit shall attract a repetition.
There shall be only one re-sit examination at the end of every academic year. For a student to qualify for a re-sit examination. he/she should have taken the main semester examination during the academic year.
A student who trails more than four (4) courses after taking the re-sit examination at the end of the academic year shall repeat the whole academic year. However, if in addition, the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) obtained is less than 1.50 he/she shall be withdrawn from the programme
A student who fails four or more courses at the end of any semester (except in the first semester. first year) shall be put on probation provided the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) obtained is not less than l.50. Deferment of PROGRAMME
A student is allowed two (2) years to defer a programme.
- a) A student can defer the programme for one year within the course period (and one year to redeem him/herself. when referred after the final year exams).
- b) A grace period of two years is allowed for students to redeem themselves, after the normal three-year period for the HND programme.
Issues that may occur
if you are a continuing student and haven’t registered at the time of examination, you likely not have your results displayed in SIP. In cases like this, you will need to visit your hand departmental or report to your departmental exams officer
And those with “IC”, “X” and all that, you need to call the various lectures if actually, you have taken part in the examination and all class assignments and class tests.
