More than 40 students of an Accra-based Senior High School (name withheld) have tested positive for the locally transmitted coronavirus (Covid-19) but are undergoing treatment, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) disclosed Monday

Speaking in an interview, Asiedu-Bekoe Franklin, a physician epidemiologist at the Health Service said the issue was detected four days ago and had initially begun with five students from the same dormitory.

According to him, approximately 41 students tested positive for the novel virus after contact tracing.

“Actually, that is about four days now and 5 students started showing symptoms and we identified their contacts and that was over ninety contacts. We did a test and the number of students who tested positive was 41,” he stated.

Mr Asiedu-Bekoe added that “41 affected students are asymptomatic and are confined in a dormitory because most of them were dormitory mates. Only the initial five showed symptoms and are doing well now.”
